ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH:
For generations, visitors to Long Beach Island, New Jersey passed by a small building off the east bound side of Route 72. This small building, was known as "The Shack" and had become synonymous with the entrance/welcoming to LBI. For many people it signaled the start of their summer vacation. After Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey coastline, the Shack disappeared into flood waters. Sadly, it's now gone forever. The Shack was built in the 1920′s, and served as a small fishing and gaming lodge for many years. Prior to the devastating storm, there were plans to save the shack.
